Nagas of Narwar: India’s Fiercest Warriors (mini)(C)

Nagas of Narwar: India’s Fiercest Warriors (mini)(C) — representative supplier photograph

In the third century A.D, the Nagas of Narwar pushed the Kushans out of India, establishing a dynasty of their own. Not much is known about these warlike people—with the exception of their flair for the dramatic. When the Nagas slew an enemy soldier—or anyone else who did not immediately come to heel—they would impale his severed head upon a pike, carrying it aloft as they rode into battle. It was a fearsome tableau. The dynasty faded out a century later, leaving behind piles of human skulls and these curious little coins.
