Best of the Mint: a gold coin and a companion medal
A reproduced historic date belongs to a modern anniversary product.
By SalarsNet · Reviewed October 5, 2026
Five designs, two objects per set
The 2026 Best of the Mint program revisits the 1916 dime, quarter, and half dollar, 1804 dollar, and 1907 high-relief double eagle. Each set pairs a gold coin with a silver medal. The medal and coin need separate identities, specifications, and descriptions.

The historic date is not an old production claim
Identify modern anniversary marks, the actual program, metal, size, and finish before attributing an 1804 or 1916 image. Preserve the coin’s inscriptions and its companion’s inscriptions. A modern gold 1804 design cannot inherit the historic presentation dollar’s provenance or rarity.

State exactly what is included
Compare a complete set with complete-set sales, and a single component with the same component. Include packaging only when present. Inspect surfaces and rims of both pieces before assigning grade or a premium; an anniversary mark is intentional design unless the exact product reference says otherwise.

Selected reviewed issue records
These catalog standards describe the named issue, not a measured specimen. The selected records below do not cover every date, mint, strike, or die variety. Reported production is labeled separately from established mintage. Unknown standards and mintage remain visible; survival estimates and certified populations are separate research questions.
No issue-level specification or mintage records are published for this category yet. Verify the exact date, mint, strike, metal, and subtype in its reference before using a numerical standard.
References and review
Reference reviewed October 5, 2026. Historical facts and catalog standards need to match the exact issue; price comparisons should be researched at the time of valuation.
